And don't forget if you're going to play games that require software mode (like the Ratchet & Clank series and the Jak & Daxter series), you can tell PCSX2 to use more threads. Just boot into the game with it and once you're in a race, press F9 to switch to hardware mode again. But like I said, you don't need to use it. Conversely if you're playing a game that your computer can easily handle, you can turn off the frame limiter or turn on turbo and you will see your FPS go past 60 and your game speed and audio go in super-fast motion. So as long as your computer is dropping frames, your game speed and audio speed will be slowed down as well.

Just to clarify though, console games (at least from the PS2/GameCube era) have most (if not all) of their game logic tied to the framerate, so if you weren't running at full speed, everything would get slowed down, including the audio. I wouldn't be surprised if what actually helped your performance was switching from D3D9 to D3D11.Īnyway, glad to hear it's mostly working fine. We recommend Direct3D 11, and if you're using one of the development versions of PCSX2 (1.3.1), you can also try the OpenGL renderer. Oh you were using Direct3D 9? Yeah that renderer is old as shit and it's mostly not recommended. That way you get the performance benefits of having your GPU help out with emulation and the better looking upscaled resolution as well. The cool thing is though, after you've started a race, you can press F9 to temporarily switch back to hardware mode and everything should be fine. Another issue with software mode is that it doesn't allow for upscaling the game, so you're stuck with the PS2's native resolution. To help out with this, add some 'Extra rendering threads' in the GSdx Plugin Settings. This means that you might not get full speed. The problem with software mode is that it doesn't use the GPU at all to help out with the emulation, it makes the CPU do all the work. If you close PCSX2 completely and then go back in and boot into Burnout 3, is the sky black or is it full of garbage textures? It should be black.Īnyway the "workaround" for this sky issue is to go into your GSdx Plugin Settings and change to a renderer in software mode. This has happened to me too, I think PCSX2 doesn't flush its textures properly when switching between games. It sounds like the sky issue in Burnout Revenge is the same as in Burnout 3, it's just that you probably booted into Burnout 3 after first having booted into another game (presumably Burnout Revenge) which would make Burnout 3 show garbage textures instead of an empty sky. The good news is that the issue is currently being worked on by our developer gregory. I've experienced it myself and it's even noted in the wiki page for the game. Yeah the glitched out sky is a known issue with Burnout 3.
